The recipes for making soap are many. Whether you are using recipes for making old fashioned lye soap, or using a recipe for making liquid castile soap. The list goes on.
At nearly any website dedicated to soap making and soap products you can find recipes for making lye based homemade soap, a recipe for old fashioned lye soap, and goat milk soap recipes.
Let’s have a look at some of the recipes one can find.
Heres one for homemade dog soap. You take about four ounces of glycerin soap base and melt it down in a pan over low heat. DO NOT BOIL! Once melted add one tablespoon of castor oil, an eighth of a teaspoon of vitamin E oil, a quarter teaspoon of liquid glycerin, and five to ten drops of essential tea tree oil. (You can also add a few drops of peppermint oil if you like.) Pour into a soap mold and let set until firm. Voila! Homemade doggie soap!
Here’s one for making basic old-fashioned lye soap from fat drippings the way your grandmother and your great grandmother did. About three quarts of fat drippings, twelve ounces of lye, four to four and a half quarts of cold rain or well water, three teaspoons of borax, one teaspoon of salt, two tablespoons of sugar, and a quarter cup of ammonia.
Completely clean fat by boiling in an equal amount of water. Place kettle, or pan in a cold place to firm up the fat. Cut and scrap fat from the sides of your pan or kettle. Pour off the water and the waste. Scrape off the excess wastes from bottom of the fat cake. Clean your pan or kettle and replace the fat cakes, and melt over low heat. Dissolve the lye in a quart of cold water and let it stand until cool, then add the melted fat slowly. Stir this mixture constantly. Mix the other ingredients together and add to the first mixture. Stir until the mixture is thick and has the color of honey. Pour into a pan lined with a clean white cloth. Before the soap becomes hard, mark the pieces into cakes or roll into balls. When the soap is hard, store for about a month or so to allow further air-drying.
There are recipes for making swirled soap, honey soap, and even African black soap. Starting with a basic lye soap recipe makes African black soap. And then add
a strong, smoky smelling, black powder tha comes from Africa, and has wonderful healing properties for the skin.
Making soap can be a fun and enjoyable hobby. Or, it can be turned into a lucrative home-based business. Have fun!
