Glycerin Soap

Glycerin soap is the soap base for nearly every type of soap one can make. Whether it's milk and honey soap or sassafras soap, or even just a clear blue bar of blueberry glycerin soap, glycerin soap is needed to make the “fancier” types of soap and is used as a base for homemade shampoos.

Take a look at any of the website dedicated to making soap, and you will find a basic glycerin soap recipe. All handmade glycerin based soaps start out as you basic, unadorned, bar of glycerin soap. Here is a basic glycerin soap base recipe.

Basic Glycerin Melt and Pour Soap Making
First place soap in a double boiler pan or in a bowl and in the microwave. Heat slowly to avoid burning. Once soap is liquid, add up to a maximum of about a ½ ounce of scented oil. Make sure to use fragrances that are deemed safe for soap and skincare products! Add coloring if desired. Add the colorant slowly and do not add too much, or it can stain the skin and clothes when used. Pour into your soap mold.
Allow to naturally re-harden. To un-mold, place the mold with the soap in freezer for about 20 minutes. When the mold returns to room temperature, it will expand as it warms up and the soap will just drop out. For soap that is very hard to get out of the mold, run warm water over the back of the mold.
Wrap in airtight cello or shrink-wrap. TADA! Homemade glycerin soap!

Once you get a stash of cured glycerin soap loaves, logs, or bars...you can start to turn that into glycerin soap that gets melted and poured into molds of every shape and size. Most glycerin soap can be made to be transparent, or milky in appearance. This clearly natural soap can be used to even make your own homemade shampoo. Here’s a homemade shampoo recipe. You need 16 ounces of melted glycerin soap, a few teaspoons of liquid glycerin, about 1 teaspoon of fragrance oil, a drop of cosmetic color if desired.

Heat the base in the microwave or in a pan on the stove over LOW heat. Add scented oil, and the color if desired. Stir well. Pour into bottles. Allow your bottled homemade shampoo to cool with the top off to prevent condensation. Your homemade shampoo will thicken as it cools.

If the bubbles are not white, then you are using too much color. Shampoo will be thin and runny if too much fragrance is added.

But, if you do not have the time or patience to deal with making your glycerin soap base and waiting for it to cure to make other forms of glycerin soaps, then look online for a dealer that deals in wholesale to the public to obtain the glycerin soap base for making your custom glycerin soaps.
