Jar candles are one of the most common types of candle to be found. They are available for purchase at nearly every department store in the country. Ranging from large candy jar varieties to the small jelly jar sizes, they are sure to please the eye and the olfactory senses.
Jar candles are very easy to make. All one needs are wide mouthed jars of various sizes, such as canning jars, or salsa jars, a pan to melt the wax, scent, or scents of choice, and blocks of the coloring wax. You'll also need some wicks. First, center your wick in the jar with about an inch or so of extra length wrapped around the center of a regular pencil or small dowel rod. lay the pencil, or dowel across the top with the wicking dangling down into the jar making sure it is a centered as possible. If your wicking has not been pre-wax treated then treat it by dipping it into some melted base wax and then wipe off the excess before it completely cools and hardens.
Make sure your jars are nice and clean. Melt enough wax for your first candle over low heat once the wax starts to melt add a bit of the colored wax of your choice and allow it to blend through out the base wax. Pour into your jar and add your scent. Allow to cool and harden around the wick. As the wax cools it may leave a depression on the top of the candle. You can add enough wax to level it out once the candle has completely hardened. Once the added wax has completely cooled. Remove the dowel or pencil and cut the wicking off to about a half and inch above the candle. Voila! You've made a jar candle!
If you do not have the time, or inclination, to make your own jar candles then they are easy to purchase. Ranging from very inexpensive to the rather pricey, jar candles are to be found anywhere candles are sold. Whether you purchase unscented or the heavily fragranced jar candles, the choices are endless.
Jar candles can smell like anything from a coffee latte to an apple pie. Jar candles that are for aromatherapy are also available. In every scent imaginable, you can lift your spirits with the scents of spring, or get your honey in the mood with scents designed to stimulate his or her libidinal desires.
Jar candles are really good for outdoor use as well. Just set a citronella jar candle in the middle of your patio table and spend a pleasant evening free of mosquitoes without the noisy interference of a "bug zapper".
Jar candles also make great gifts for friends and family. If you have a lot of folks to buy for, try buying your jar candles wholesale. Buying wholesale is always a good idea. Saves time and money, and allows you to buy in bulk. Buying in bulk means you always have a beautiful gift available for holidays, birthdays, weddings, baby showers, or just because you feel like giving a gift to someone special to you. Wholesale jelly jar candles are especially good for these purposes as they are easy to find in wholesale bulk quantities.
One of the great things about jar candles is that they are self-contained and therefore do not need a holder.
But, if you don't like burning your jar candles, use a jar candle warmer. These look a bit like a small crock-pot designed to hold any standard, or large jar candle, up to about 22 ounce sizes. These wonderful little warmers gently heat the wax slowly; melting it and releasing the scent into the air. The general approximate melting times run about 3 hours to completely melt a jar candle. Turn it off and the candle will re-solidify leaving it ready for the next time.
Jar candles are a personal favorite of many people and are easy and economical to buy and use. They add simple elegance to any room, and delight the senses. Add a jar candle anywhere you want the soft light of a candle, or to fill a room with a sweet fragrance, and enjoy!
