Candle Holders

If you use candles, then one needs candle holders to help provide a steady base for the candle itself, as well as to catch any wax that may drip or run down the sides of the candle. Now, while a basic plate may serve this purpose well enough, it detracts from the decorative virtues that a candleholder provides. Lets look at some of the various types of candleholders. Starting with votive candleholders.

Votive candleholders come in a variety of shape, sizes and colors. They can look like stars, hearts, moons, circles, squares, dogs, cats, birds, or most anything you can think of. The materials you can find votive candleholders made from range from glass to porcelain with everything in between.

Glass candleholders are one of the most common types of candleholders on the market. Ranging in size from tall and cylindrical, to short, squat, and square. They can be clear and colored, or frosted, or plain, clear glass.

A wrought iron candle holder is a very solid and sturdy type of candle holder that can give a gothic look to your room's decor, or be an elegant piece of curves and swirls. These types of candleholders are also good for outdoor use.

Wall candleholders are hung up on a wall by means of hooks or nails. A wall candle holder is usually designed to hold the tapered type of candles, but some are also designed to hold votive candles, pillar candles, or some of the more exotically shaped candles.

Christmas tree candleholders could be candleholders that are shaped like a Christmas tree, or the types of candleholders used back in the mid to late 19th century and early 20th century that were of the weighted or clip-on varieties used to put small, tapered candles on the branches of the tree. They were quickly replaced by electric lights in the 50s, but are still available through outlets dealing in the "old-fashioned" items for those of you who enjoy nostalgia.

Hurricane candleholders are a beautiful way to burn a candle. A hurricane candle holder is a very elegant form of holder that is designed to make the most of candle light by reflecting the glow to help softly brighten a room. The sizes, and styles, are nearly endless.

Cemetery candle holders, also called vigil lights, or eternal lights, are used to keep a light of remembrance on a loved one's grave. They have a long, slender end that is pushed into the ground that holds the "lantern" on top. These can contain the solar powered candles, battery-powered candles, or the traditional wax candle.

A “circle of friends” candleholder is a type of candleholder that generally comes in the four, five, six, seven, or eight figure styles. “Circle of friends” candleholders are most often hand made of terra cotta and are usually made in western Mexico. They are representative of a pre-Columbian ceremonial dance that symbolized a circle of friendship.

There are also the floor standing candle holders that are made of wrought iron and are designed to be used outdoors while enjoying a summer evening barbecue, or just relaxing on the patio. They'll hold your citronella candles beautifully. Soft lighting, and no bugs. They are also great to use in around the fireplace hearth on nights that are just a bit too warm for a roaring fire.

Candleholders come in so many varieties and styles that there are virtually unlimited choices to suit every taste. They'll add elegance and beauty to your home, and there is a price range to suit every budget. So, dress up your home, and display your candles with lovely candleholders.
