Each essential oil is extracted and concentrated by painstaking processes, and depending on the type of essential oil and the quantity that can be obtained from the particular item, these extremely pure oils can be rather expensive.

Most of the pure essential oils used in aromatherapy are blended with a neutral oil, like olive oil, to keep their natural purity and to allow the essential oils to be applied to skin; Such as is the case with lavender massage oil. Another way of using essential aromatherapy oils instead of soy candles, beeswax candles, or massage oils, is to use a diffuser. A diffuser usually has a bowl, or some sort of container, into which one puts a few drops of essential aromatherapy oil and it is gently heated from the bottom with a bulb or votive candle to release the scent into the air.
